During the 3Q 2020 earnings conference call MGM head Bill Hornbuckle mentioned that the company is now “going through an exercise, we’re doing it now, about what do we keep open and what do we close,” should MGM resorts decide to close certain Las Vegas properties during the week.
The idea is that certain resorts would close around 4:00pm Monday until Thursday afternoon and would allow guest reservations from Thursdays until early Monday afternoon at the latest.
The idea is meant to utilize properties best as well as staffing levels. Las Vegas hotel rate occupancy for Q3 was only 37%, leaving lots of empty rooms and travelers yet requiring resorts to remain opened with little foot traffic.
The targeted weekday closures could begin as early as mid-November.
